John T. Poeton Award
The John T. Poeton Award is presented annually by the Executive Board of the Vermont Council on Reading
at the Fall Conference. We would like to encourage you to make nominations for this award.
The Award
The Vermont Council on
Reading may award a plaque annually to an outstanding educator working in a
Vermont school setting to foster literacy development with students and
colleagues.
Eligibility
To be nominated an educator must:
- have taught for three (3) full years;
- be currently a full time educator with the responsibility of teaching literacy;
- be licensed within the state of Vermont;
- not be a past recipient of the award.
Nominating Procedures
The Vice President will
coordinate a committee for this award that will include the members at large. A
candidate must be nominated by at least three (3) persons. These nominations
should be in the form of letters or testimonial statements which describe the
candidate's literacy practices and why the nominator considers these practices
outstanding. These statements should not exceed two pages in length. Past
presidents of VCR will be invited to submit nominations.
The person
making the nomination should send the materials to the Vice President of the
Vermont Council On Reading. All nominations should be received by April 2nd.
The John T. Poeton Award Committee will submit the names of the three finalists to the Executive Board
at the January meeting. The Board will review the three nominations and make a final decision on the
recipient of the Literacy Award. The Vice President will present the award at the annual VCR Spring
Conference.
